PEI Home Renovation Program

Province has more than doubled the number of people who can receive the home renovation funding.

Islanders looking to renovate their homes now have a better chance of getting some financial help.
The province announced changes to P.E.I.'s home renovation program Wednesday.
Homeowners can now receive $6,000 grants, instead of $12,000 loans.
The program will also be based on income now, instead of on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Minister Doug Currie says the funding will be approved based on income level rather than first-come, first-served. (CBC)
Doug Currie, Minister of Family and Human Services says it means more Islanders can now take advantage of the program.
"This time over last year, we'll be doubling the intake, from 75 applicants to 175 applicants," said Currie.
"The application process has been opened up and we'll be able to provide a more open, transparent program which will be more accessible."
The program will also give $8000 grants to help people with disabilities renovate their homes.
Islanders can apply for the program until Nov.13, and applications will open again in the spring.

FLU SHOTS

Flu Vaccination Clinics
The best way to protect yourself and others from the flu is to get vaccinated each year. Beginning on October 5, 2015, call 1-855-354-4358 (4FLU) to book an appointment at a flu vaccination clinic in a community near you.

The hours of operation for the flu phone line are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Messages may be left after hours, and calls will be returned the following business day.

You can also contact your local pharmacist, family physician, or nurse practitioner to arrange to get your vaccine.

FluMist (nasal vaccine for children and youth 2-17 years old) will be available after November 1, 2015.

Will I have to pay for a flu shot?
If you are a Canadian living in PEI or visiting from another province, you must pay a $7 administration fee and bring your provincial health card with you. If you are not a Canadian citizen, the fee is $40 for the flu vaccine. This cost is covered if you are an Islander who is:

  • a senior age 65+;
  • a child age 6-59 months;
  • a pregnant woman or any individual living in a household with a pregnant woman;
  • a resident of a community care facility; or
  • an individual who identifies as Aboriginal.
